Does Vitamax®contain vitamins A, D, E and K in a water-miscible form?

A: Yes, Vitamax®contains vitamins A,D, E and K in a water-miscible form. Because individuals with cystic fibrosis have trouble absorbing fats, certain vitamins are not absorbed from food. Vitamins A, D, E and K are "fat-soluble" vitamins and these vitamins need fat to be absorbed. Vitamax®multivitamins contain vitamins A, D, E and K in a water-miscible form, which means they do not need fat to be absorbed. Back to top

Do I need a prescription for Vitamax®?

A: Yes, the Cystic Fibrosis Services Pharmacy requires a prescription for all items dispensed. Check with your physician to see if Vitamax® is appropriate for you or your child. Who manufactures Vitamax®?

A: Vitamax®tablets are manufactured by Natures Products, and Vitamax®pediatric drops are manufactured by Ambix Laboratories. Vitamax®has been developed by and is a registered trademark of Shear/Kershman Laboratories, Inc. Back to top
Q:

Will my insurance cover the cost?

A: Insurance plans, as well as State Medicaids, may or may not cover nutritional items. Contact your specific insurance provider to determine if Vitamax®multivitamins or other nutritionals are covered. If your provider does not cover nutritionals, they are considered an individual responsibility or an "out-of-pocket" expense. Back to top

Is Vitamax® kosher?

A: Vitamax®multivitamins are not kosher-certified. Because of the vitamin deficiencies in individuals with cystic fibrosis, discuss vitamin and nutritional supplementation with your rabbi. Back to top

Is Vitamax® gluten-free?

A: Gluten is not added to Vitamax® products. However, there is no guarantee that the ingredients used in Vitamax® are 100% gluten-free due to potential trace amounts that could be added or used in the manufacturing process of ingredients supplied by vendors. Back to top

Does Vitamax® contain starch?

A: No. Vitamax® does not contain starch. Vitamax® tablets are held together with sorbitol, carrageenan and the vitamins themselves. Back to top
Q:

What is phenylketonurics and what is phenylalanine?

A: Phenylketonurics is the term used to refer to people that have the metabolic disorder, Phenylketonuria (PKU). Individuals with PKU have a deficiency of an enzyme, which is necessary to effectively metabolize the amino acid called phenylalanine. Aspartame is used as a sweetener in Vitamax®  multivitamins. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled that all products containing aspartame must have a warning for individuals with PKU. Back to top
